Automatronic state of play
April 13, 2007
The state of play now automatically updates after every turn. Good stuff. Additionally, there's now a quick way to go to centre your view on a particular cell in the main territory view. I've also fixed a minor issue with the map display on the base-building section.
Topsy-turvy town

One: leaderboard no longer counts new players. Secondly, I've improved some code here and there, most notably the code for processing map changes. Third(ly?), the priority given for players in the leaderboard is now a percentage range (their priority is x percent of the average) instead of a microwave-oven-inspired term (the actual mechanics are the same). The fourth and most importantly change is that I've simplified the score system: score is now solely determined by how much territory you own, so it no longer takes priority into account. Every base is worth 20x more than a regular cell.
The scoring formula has been changed (in addition to simplifying things) to allow for a change in the gameplay. Bases are no longer the sole determiner of how many moves you can make; that now relies on your score. Hopefully, this means there will be more battling for control of territory and less just-going-for-bases (really, the just-going-for-bases concept should be more-or-less dead now).
You receieve an extra move every 1000 points. Players still get a bonus at the start of the game, and since everything is getting decimalised, this bonus now means you have 10 moves to use at the start of the game.
I may also further delay the new game (oh no!) by a couple of days if I see that there are people who do not know of the new changes. Because of these new changes, all your actions have been reset. If you can't remember what you did, contact me and I can tell you.
Indeed, this new game is going to be very different—and particularly with this change, more strategic—so start planning ahead. Your future success depends on it.
False start
April 3, 2007
Due to five lines of missed code the game messed up in a way which had people ruining the map and pounding the database. So, the game had to be reset from scratch (sorry).
It begins (again)

Firstly, thanks to everyone who participated in the first game of Territory. Hopefully, this new one will be even better. Please note the following changes:
- This new game will play a lot slower because of one fundamental change: no more capturing bases. This means less randomness and a lot more oppurtunities for newer players.
- Fortifying is now a factor of the average priority, not the user's priority; this also gives less powerful players more of a chance in the game and slows down the snowball effect.
- Bases are now allocated to new players in a slightly simpler and hopefully better way.
- The users online system has been improved greatly (behind the scenes, that is).
- The little version number in the footer has been bumped up to 0.8.
- The size of the map (number of rows & columns displayed on a single map) can now be changed in the HQ.
That said, I haven't made any large technical changes to the game. I've got a couple lined up, but for now my attention is devoted to a couple of other projects. Heheh. Keep up-to-date with that stuff on my site.
Now, starting the game: all existing accounts have been deleted, so we're starting afresh. The old game has been saved for posterity, and can be viewed on the leaderboard's hall of fame.
Endgame
March 15, 2007
And so, it's supertime: turns every single day! In two weeks time—Friday, 2007-03-30—this game will be over! After that there will be a temporary hiatus, the map will be preserved, and a new game will start (there will be some changes to that too). I hope you all stick around and play it.

Introducing Monsieur Dossier
Februrary 9, 2007
The dossier is a new Territory feature to improve the diplomatic element of the game: it is a simple way to keep track of other users. With the dossier you can sort users into four groups that only you can see. What group a user is in is reflected in the territory map by the symbol in the bottom-right corner of their cells. For more information about the dossier, consult the manual.
Assorted minor changes
Februrary 9, 2007
Links to user pages on leaderboard, labels are now case-insensitive.
An encouragement to get diplomatic
Februrary 8, 2007
If you haven't already been talking to other players in your area and developing alliances and strategies, you should do it now. It makes the game a lot more interesting.
Automatic base creation, users online
Februrary 6, 2007
Bases are now being allocated automatically when accounts are created. This doesn't affect existing users but it speeds things up for new users. Additonally, there is now a 'users online' indicator on the leaderboard. I also tweaked the score formula to take into account priority. Smoothed out some things that could have caused problems.
More changes: Territory zero-point-six
Februrary 5, 2007
Number of moves a turn remains four, however for multiple bases it is now 4 + (3 * (bases - 1)). Manual continues to be improved. Tributing can now be done up to 25% of score. 'Moves left' counter no longer needs to be refreshed after actions to be accurate. Leaderboard now displays how many times a user has restarted (lost) the game next to the user's name. Global overview is now a 1/4 scale version of the map. Leaderboard now displays microwave-oven-inspired priority. Improved headquarters gives you at-a-glance activity reports. Fixed password changing bug. Leaderboard is now limited to the top ten players, plus you, plus anyone within five of your rank. Global overview now works for baseless types. When viewing a user's stats there is now a neat colour image.
Since the release
Februrary 2, 2007
There have been a bunch of bugfixes, a couple of new features (colours on the leaderboard, link to dip. map on main territory screen, and you can now make four (with multiple bases, 4 * num_of_bases) moves a turn.
Initial beta release

Territory is here. You're here too. I think that's more than a mere coincidence, so create an account, read the tutorial, maybe the manual, and get playing.
